The StingIR-384 from American AGM Global Vision is a tactical thermal imaging goggles that comes with a helmet mount (bridge) with dovetail mount. With a 384x288 detector (12μm) and real-time image, it is a high-end hands-free thermal camera. The AGM StingIR-384 is specifically designed for professional users and any demanding user who wants to keep his or her hands free during use. The device is only 14 cm long and weighs less than 200 grams.
The camera can detect persons at a distance of up to 730 m and vehicles well over one kilometer. The large field of view is 16.3 x 12.3 degrees. The optical magnification is 1x, but with a digital zoom you can further magnify up to 2x and 4x. You can also use the Picture-in-Picture mode, to further magnify a particular object in the picture. The environment is projected on a razor-sharp OLED display with 1028x768 pixels.
You can have the environment displayed based on four color palettes: White Hot, Black Hot, Orange Hot (also known as Outdoor Alert) and Rainbow. You can manually control the brightness and contrast, which are adjustable in 10 levels. You can also use the built-in digital compass and inclinometer, which displays the angle adjustment in degrees.
With the AGM StingIR you receive a bridge with Dovetail mount, so you can attach the thermal imaging camera to any common helmet or goggle kit (headset). The adapter features a rail, which allows you to position the thermal camera perfectly in front of the desired eye. The NVG mount - which connects your helmet to the bridge - is not included, as it depends on the type of connection on the front of your helmet. You can see what exactly is included in the content description section and the images.
The viewer is IP67 certified, so it is water and dust proof. Even at very extreme temperatures from -10°C to +60°C you can use it without any problems. You can power the AGM StingIR in several ways: via continuous power or one CR123, RCR123 or 18650 battery. The camera also has a standby mode to further extend its battery life. Continuous power can be achieved, for example, by attaching a power bank to the back of your helmet or goggle kit and connecting it to the thermal imaging camera (USB-C connection). This also ensures an optimal balance.
This thermal monocular is designed for both handheld and hands-free use. This makes it an ideal solution for a wide range of applications. Think of airsoft and tactical use, such as police and defense (Mil/LE) and any form of security, search & rescue or the coast guard, for example. In addition, the StingIR also lends itself to night navigation, general nature observation and hunting. Using thermal imaging goggles, you can always observe and detect, regardless of the weather type or time of day.
