TSN-99 Prominar is a further development of the popular TSN-880 series and is Kowa’s first scope to feature both a convex XD lens & pure fluorite crystal lens. It features Kowa’s largest objective lens ever produced at 99mm delivering the ultimate in low light performance and exquisite detail free from chromatic aberration.

The spotting scope features a brand-new design with smooth ergonomics combined with high end engineering and is easy to use out in the field for long periods of time even in harsh conditions. The body is made of a 100% magnesium alloy structure and is one of the most compact and lightweight in its class of large objective spotting scopes making it more portable than many other models.

Just like previous models the TSN-99 features Kowas Quick focus (dual focus) that allows for fast action to bring your subject in to detail in just a few smooth revolutions, whilst fine focus gives pin-point, finger-tip control offering the ultimate in focussing accuracy with minute adjustments possible even when wearing gloves.

Optical constructions consist of Kowa’s unique pure fluorite crystal lenses and the spotting scope features their largest objective lens ever produced at 99mm. Together with a Kowa XD lens with extremely low dispersion characteristics the spotting scope produces an astonishing image quality with great colour brilliance and a minimum of chromatic aberration even at high magnification. The objective lens has further protection from the elements with Kowa’s unique KR coating which repels dirt, moisture and dust from building on the surface.

The spotting scope is fully compatible with the entire Kowa accessory line-up.

The Kowa Spotting Scope TSN-99A Prominar is the new flagship of Kowa. The TSN-99A is equipped with a large 99mm pure fluorite crystal objective lens, which in combination with a Kowa XD lens delivers superior performance in low light. This special combination, combined with the improved optical coatings, virtually eliminates chromatic aberration, even at high magnifications. Because the TSN-99A is equipped with a dual focus mechanism, the image can be focused faster and more accurately in just a few smooth revolutions, just with an index finger. The fine focus mechanism provides the final control to view the image razor sharp.

Because the Kowa TSN-99A uses a 100% magnesium alloy, it is a compact and lightweight spotting scope in its class. The TSN-99A is easy to carry and has a fully waterproof and nitrogen sealed housing with Kowa KR coating on the optics. This makes the binoculars reliably robust.

"Prominar" Lens

Chromatic aberration occurs due to the diffusion of light and the different wavelengths of light that concentrate at different positions, which can result in a red or purple border around the subject. The optimal optical material to minimize chromatic aberration is Fluorite Crystal. For the convex lens of the TSN-99A/99S, a Fluorite Crystal with extremely low dispersion characteristics is used. Instead of an ordinary optical glass lens, the hollow lens in combination with the Fluorite Crystal lens is made of glass with special dispersive properties to further reduce chromatic aberration. This combination virtually eliminates chromatic aberration and redefines the standards for color brilliance.

Fluorite crystal is only used in the top models of Kowa.

• The fluorite used as an optical lens is an artificially grown monocrystal with "ultra-low dispersion", a property that ordinary optical glass does not have. Astro Adapters

With the use of a Kowa Astronomy adapter, the TSN-99A can also be used for night-time celestial observation and photography. For this purpose a universal 1.25" astro eyepiece can be used.

• Kowa C-991 water-repellent Stay-On Bag
  The water-repellent bag has been specially designed for the Kowa TSN-99A and provides good protection during use and on the move. It comes with a shoulder strap that allows the spotting scope to be carried close at hand at all times and allows quick observation. The bag can remain wrapped around the scope while in use. The covers of the objective lens and eyepiece can be removed very quickly and all controls remain accessible.
• Kowa TSN-CV88 Eyepiece protector
  This eyepiece protector prevents scratching of the eyepiece lens or its coating due to unfavourable conditions or transport. By using an eyepiece protector, costly repairs can be prevented.
• Kowa TP-105FT Protective filter
  Using a protective filter for the lens reduces the risk of damage to the lens and avoids costly repairs. This can extend the life of the spotting scope. The Kowa TP-105FT protective filter has oil and water repellent coatings and ensures that sand and sea salt do not get on the lens. This keeps the objective lens with the special coatings undamaged.

Damage to the objective lens can drastically reduce optical performance, which also causes costly repairs. Precisely because the TSN-99A is equipped with a lens made of pure fluorite crystal. Often, the only option left is to completely replace the entire lens.That is why using protection is advisable.
