The lens can also be seen as an ideal telephoto supplement to this standard zoom.
This mix of the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary from image quality, functionality and handiness makes telephotography handy and yet professional. The lens invites experienced and inexperienced telephoto photographers to take it with you and discover it, and it is simply fun - with snapshots and photo excursions.
Features:
- for mirrorless full-frame cameras
SIGMA's fifth DG-DN lens - developed exclusively for mirrorless full-frame cameras
Thanks to the special adjustment to cameras with a short back focus, the SIGMA DG-DN lens series offers an outstanding combination of optical performance and compactness, which would not have been possible with lenses for SLR cameras. Thanks to the stepper motor optimized for both phase detection AF and contrast AF, the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary absolutely smooth recordings with video and eye tracking AF. This lens will further expand the possibilities of photography with mirrorless cameras.
* Product designations | The abbreviations DG and DN indicate that the lens is suitable for full-frame cameras and is only designed for mirrorless cameras (with a short back focus).
Unprecedented picture quality
The new lens is based on the latest optical design technology and is optimized for mirrorless systems. The lens construction of the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary consists of 16 groups and 22 elements. These include an FLD lens and four SLD lenses, which are used to effectively correct aberrations and distortion. It therefore delivers consistent high-resolution quality from the center of the image to the edges of the image - at any focal length, from 100mm to 400mm. In conjunction with the new SIGMA Tele-Converters TC-1411 and TC-2011 (optionally available and only for L-Mount), which were also developed exclusively for use on mirrorless cameras, the SIGMA delivers 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary then gave the photographer a “super telephoto angle” with a focal length of up to 800mm. In addition, the AF is retained in combination with the tele-converters. The advantages of a compact system are also not lost. The station wagon remains powerful and compact.
Extensive functionality that ensures the professional and simple implementation of ultra-telephoto recordings
The stepper motor, optimized according to the latest algorithm, ensures fast and smooth AF. The SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary also has a powerful optical image stabilization (OS) that compensates for up to four exposure levels. In combination with an image stabilization inside the camera, rotations of the pitch and yaw axis are corrected and thus an even stronger image stabilization is achieved. The "dual action zoom" of the lens means that the lens can be used both as a rotary and a sliding zoom, allowing photographers to adjust the angle of view even more intuitively and quickly. It has an AFL button, which can be assigned selected functions on the camera side, as well as a focus area limiter switch, with which the AF area can be limited to its respective recording areas and thus optimized. The compatibility of the lens with the new optionally available SIGMA USB-DOCK UD-11 (only for L-Mount), which was also specially developed for mirrorless systems, underlines the professional and functional design of the lens. In conjunction with the USB dock and the associated SIGMA Optimization Pro software, the amount of focus movement when operating the focus ring, for example, can be adjusted to allow the focus to work at its preferred pace in MF mode.
Light and high quality housing
As a goal, SIGMA did not just want to add a light and compact ultra-telephoto zoom lens to the contemporary product line with the new 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary. The new lens should also be professional and durable. With this lens, great care was taken to install selected, high-quality materials. For example, the components to which a tripod clamp can be attached are made of a robust and dimensionally stable magnesium alloy. The tripod clamp is optionally available. By using a tripod clamp, the stress on the connection points is reduced and nothing stands in the way of using a tripod for a long time.

Presenting impressive reach in a relatively compact design, the Sony E-mount 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary lens, from Sigma, is a versatile telephoto zoom mixing a hand-holdable design with apt optical performance. A series of low dispersion glass elements are used to achieve high clarity and color accuracy throughout the zoom range, and to suppress chromatic aberrations and color fringing. Complementing the optics is intuitive handling, in which a stepping motor delivers fast, near-silent autofocus performance along with fine-tuned manual focus control. Additionally, four stop-effective optical image stabilization helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting and this 100-400mm is also compatible with the optional TS-111 Tripod Socket for steady shooting atop a tripod or monopod.
As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
Telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, but can also work with APS-C models where it provides a 150-600mm equivalent focal length range.
One F Low Dispersion (FLD) element and four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Optical image stabilization compensates for up to four stops of camera shake to help realize sharp imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds.
Integrated stepping motor realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance.
At the 100mm end of the zoom range, a minimum focusing distance of 3.7' is available, and at the 400mm end, the minimum focusing distance is 5.2' with a maximum magnification of 1:4.1.
Integrated AFL button can be programmed to adjust various shooting settings and the lens also features a focus limiter switch for faster focusing performance within certain distance ranges. There is a zoom lock switch to prevent the barrel from accidentally extended.
Rounded 9-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity and rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount's design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.
Compatible with optional TS-111 Tripod Socket for working atop a tripod or monopod; the included PT-31 Protective Cover can be attached to the lens to maintain a seamless appearance if the tripod socket is not used.
