'Photography is light' runs the adage - and the more of it the better when you're trying to deliver stunning pictures you'll be proud of. Helping you realise that goal is a new prime lens for Micro Four Thirds system cameras. The Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75mm 1:1.8 Prime Portrait lens offers not only an extra bright maximum f/1.8 aperture (minimum f/22), but also an ultra stylish and swish metal build, matching the high benchmark for retro style offered by the Olympus OM-D and PEN camera ranges.
Capable of delivering an attention-grabbing shallow depth of field when shooting portraits, and attractively defocused surroundings - or 'bokeh' - the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75mm 1:1.8 is a large aperture supermodel of a lens that delivers everything the photo enthusiast could ask for.
The light-gathering properties of the large aperture of this fixed focal length (or 'prime') lens makes it perfectly suited to low light and high-speed photography. When combined with a long focal length of 75mm, which, because of the advanced properties of the Micro Four Thirds sensor of an Olympus OM-D or PEN camera, delivers a focal range equivalent to 150mm on a 35mm film camera, it can generate that beautiful shallow depth-of-field effect to highlight subjects against intentionally blurred backgrounds.
The lens delivers a reliable, circular 'bokeh' without unwanted vignetting (corner shading) or off-axis aberration.
When coupled with a Micro Four Thirds Live Mos sensor in an Olympus PEN or OM-D camera, the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75mm 1:1.8 Prime Portrait lens, which feature three ED lenses up front, helps to deliver the image quality of a DSLR in a compact and easy to use camera. It allows PEN and OM-D owners to discover the fun and expanded creative possibilities of using an interchangeable lens camera system.
The PEN and OM-D series' built-in compact dust reduction system, in the form of Supersonic Wave Filter (SSWF), adds to the lens' performance by eliminating the particles that can otherwise intrude and attach themselves to the camera's sensor when swapping lenses. The SSWF is a transparent filter located between the camera's shutter and sensor.
This Prime Portrait lens owes its high quality to its high precision assembling and polishing technology, which puts it on a par with the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 150mm 1:2.0 lens for the sophistication of its construction. Detail is maintained right to the edges, and high contrast, high resolution, crystal clear pictures are the result. Advanced surface coating also reduces ghosting and flare.
In spite of the full metal assembly, the lens is also portably and conveniently lightweight and compact, with a length of just 69mm. Furthermore, the premium feel and fine-tuned focus ring make it a pleasure to use in manual mode. In fact, using it with the new OM-D camera provides you with a stabilised live view through the EVF, so that the lens enables can be utilised for more precise framing and exposure. The weight of the lens, at a sturdy feel 305g, is also finely balanced with that of the Olympus PEN and OM-D camera bodies.
When used in auto focus (AF) mode, the operation of this high grade, high performance lens is not only high speed but is silent with it. This makes the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75mm 1:1.8 Prime Portrait lens ideal for use when shooting video, not just stills.
Furthermore, an inner focus mechanism with one focusing lens drive can deliver a closest focusing distance of 0.84m. The construction of the lens itself comprises 10 elements in nine groups, including three ED lenses and two HR lenses.
The sleek Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75mm 1:1.8 Prime Portrait lens is backed up by a range of accessories; these include the LH-61F lens hood plus the LC-61 lens cap, both from Olympus.
Also optionally available is a PRF-D58 PRO protection filter and a lens case, LSC-0918.
