The Zoom ARQ AR-48 Aero RhythmTrak is an all-in-one production and live performance instrument with an integrated drum machine, sequencer, synthesizer, looper, clip launcher, and MIDI controller. The ARQ consists of two powerful components: the Base Station and the detachable Ring Controller. The Base Station houses all the I/O and on-board sounds and effects, including 460 drum/instrument sounds, a synthesizer with three sub-oscillators, as well as 16 master effects including reverb, high- and low-pass filters, delay, bit crush, and more. Connections include a line-level 1/8" TRS jack for sampling phrases into the looper and two 1/4” jacks for connecting to any line-level mixer, PA, or studio monitoring system. Also included is a stereo 1/8” headphone jack with a dedicated volume control. Additionally, a USB port allows for connections to a computer, while the SD card slot lets you save patterns and loops, import prerecorded audio, and update firmware.
The Ring Controller communicates with the Base Station and DAWs via USB. It features 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads for clip launching and playing drum sounds, instrument sounds, and sequences. Any sound or musical phrase can be played chromatically or by any of the dozens of preset scales in any key. The Ring Controller features a grip-detection circuit, which automatically prevents accidental triggering of the pads under your hands, while dedicated buttons at the top and bottom of the controller allow you to play/pause tracks, solo and mute sections, as well as split, arpeggiate, and change effects. The on-board, 3-axis accelerometer generates MIDI control messages to alter sounds and effects in real time. The Ring Controller is USB bus-powered, but it can also be powered by two AA batteries. The optional BTA-1 Bluetooth LE connector is available separately, which provides wireless control from the Ring Controller. The Zoom ARQ AR-48 Aero Rhythm Trak ships with the Base Station, Ring Controller, an AC power adapter, and a download card for Ableton Live 9 Lite.
