The Yongnuo YN 35mm f/1.4 DF UWM is a refreshed version of a lens designed for full frame cameras with the Canon EF bayonet. The new model has been enhanced with an ultrasonic autofocus motor for quiet and precise operation of this system. The lens has a 35mm focal length, popular with journalists, photojournalists and street photographers. A photograph taken with this focal length lens transports the viewer to the centre of the events captured, maintaining the proportions between the various planes of the composition that are natural to human perception.
The 35mm focal length and very bright f/1.4 aperture make this a very versatile lens. It will work well for reportage photography in low light conditions, landscape photography, night sky photography, as well as portraits, allowing you to achieve beautiful background blur and emphasise the depth of the subject.
The lens is equipped with an ultrasonic autofocus motor (UWM) that ensures accurate, fast and quiet focus catching in both stills and movies. There is an AF / MF mode switch and distance scale on the housing. Manual focusing is assisted by an electronic ring. A minimum focusing distance of 25cm allows you to “step into” the scene and capture key moments up close.
The optical design of the lens consists of 11 elements arranged in 9 groups. The lenses are made from high quality optical glass, coated with multi-layer coatings to increase light transmission and reduce flare and ghosting when working against the light. Among them are two aspherical and two low dispersion elements, responsible for minimising distortion and aberration.
The minimum focusing distance is 35cm and the angle of view of the lens is 66.3°. The aperture, consisting of 7 blades, closes to a maximum value of f/22, creating a 14-point star effect. Filters with a diameter of 67 mm can be screwed onto the lens. A LH-73 T sunshade is included with the lens.
A robustly constructed metal bayonet and the use of gold-plated contacts ensure secure attachment and effective communication between the camera body and lens. What’s more, the front lens thread is not only useful when attached to a lens hood. It can also accommodate filters up to 67mm in diameter, further expanding the possibilities of working with the Yongnuo YN 35mm f/1.4 DF UWM for Canon EF cameras.
The lens is equipped with a micro USB connector, so we can update its firmware. The latest software (downloadable from manufacturer’s website ) provides more efficient autofocus operation and compatibility with new cameras.
