New product
Zeiss Loxia 25mm f/2.4 is a manual focus, full-frame compatible wide-angle lens for Sony mirrorless cameras (E mount). Also works great on cameras with APS-C size sensors.
The lens offers exceptional image quality and has several features especially adopted for video, such as a manual aperture ring that can be switched to stepless settings as well as built-in electronics that automatically activate a magnified image view or start focus peaking on the screen as soon as you turn the focus ring*.
The housing is made of metal and the lens is also weather sealed with rubber gaskets that keep out moisture and dust.
All Loxia lenses also have the same diameter (62 mm), which facilitates the use of professional focusing aids for video, such as Zeiss Lens Gears.
*Magnified view or focus peaking must be selected in the camera
Optical design
Inside the covers you will find an optical design with 10 elements divided into 8 groups. The use of aspherical elements to maximize sharpness and minimize distortion, as well as two elements made of ED glass that correct for chromatic aberration, provide high contrast and resolution from the center all the way to the edges.
Zeiss has also designed the optics to perform equally well at all focus distances using so-called floating lens groups. Stray light and reflexes are effectively counteracted with the famous Zeiss T* advanced multi-layer anti-reflective coating.
