New product
Your photography will go far beyond imagination. It's the first lens this wide rectilinear designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras with the Sony E bayonet. Pure magic and perfect optics spelled in a compact 350-gram design. Laowa, with its new lens, is leaving the competition far behind without looking back.
The Laowa 9mm f/5.6 FF RL is currently the widest non-fisheye lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The ultra-wide 135-degree angle of view and well-corrected distortion allow you to realize one-of-a-kind shots.
At the heart of the lens are 14 optical elements arranged in 10 groups. Two aspherical lenses and two extra-low dispersion glasses reduce chromatic aberration and distortion to a minimum. One of the other lenses is made of glass with a high refractive index. Inside the lens, we find a five-blade aperture, which can be maximally closed to f/22. Such an advanced design has been managed to be enclosed in a compact and lightweight body.
In addition to the ultra-wide field of view, the lens gives the possibility to approach the photographed subject at a distance of 12 cm. Such a short focusing distance creates unconventional opportunities in macro photography, when creating multi-plane frames with a unique perspective.
When you close the aperture, you get the effect of aesthetically pleasing and well-defined 10-point stars. They appear in the photo in place of the sun or other light sources, such as street lamps or Christmas tree lights.
With a 135-degree angle of view, the lens creates the impression of vast space by exaggerating the relative size of objects in the foreground. This lens is extremely useful for interior, architecture, and landscape photography.
The designers at Venus Optics didn't forget about photographers and filmmakers who use UV and ND filters in their work. Despite the convex front lens and permanently built-in tulip shield, mounting filters on the front of the lens is only possible with a special, magnetic adapter (not included). The dedicated mount is designed for standard 100 mm wide rectangular filters.
Manual focusing with this lens is a pleasure. The ring works impeccably and with a perceptible resistance. The lens is marked with a distance scale expressed in meters and feet. Additional facilitation is a convenient Focus Tab for precise control of the focus ring position.
The aperture is also set using a separate ring. For full values, we can feel a distinct click, but nothing stands in the way of smooth adjustment of this parameter to intermediate values.
An additional advantage of the lens itself is its appearance. The solid black metal construction, careful finishing, and attention to detail provide an amazing aesthetic experience. Its timeless elegance will please the eye for many years of use.
When you buy a Venus Optics Laowa brand lens, you're getting an innovative product that will serve faithfully and without fail for many years, all while maintaining an affordable price and top-notch build quality.
