High quality video
TheLUMIX GH series hybrid cameras are characterised by their outstanding performance for professional video shooting and the LUMIX GH5M2 brings a number of innovations in this area. Even in DCI 4Kp60 resolution, the entire sensor area of the GH5M2 is used, allowing the user to record video without cropping. To ensure high dynamic range and a wide color spectrum, the GH5M2 has a pre-installed V-Log L key, so there is no need to purchase one. There are also 35 LUT tables for VariCam film cameras available as a free download. Also included in the GH5M2's video toolkit are handy tools such as Waveform Monitor and V-Log View Assist.
Like the S1H, the flagship of the S Series, the LUMIX GH5M2 offers two types of Cinelike gamma presets in the Photo Style menu. These modes offer an impressive look with warm skin tones or subtle nuances of light and shadow. The Cinelike D2 preset favours dynamic range, while Cinelike V2 favours contrast. L.Monochrome S and L.Classic Neo presets have also been added. All of these presets are also available in anamorphic mode. When recording in VFR (Variable Frame Rate) mode, you can choose between C4K/4K 60 fps, Anamorphic 50 fps and FHD 180 fps. Autofocus can be set before starting VFR recording.
Powerful image processing features
The 20.3 megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor with very good image rendering minimizes ghosting and flare even in backlight thanks to the new AR layer. The LUMIX GH5M2's lightning-fast and highly accurate autofocus detects the eyes and face of subjects approximately 2x faster and continues to track them even when the subject is 50% smaller (compared to the GH5). It follows the subject even when they turn their back to the camera, tilt their head or move away. Enhancements to DFD technology have improved the capabilities of the AFC mode, allowing users to track even small subjects. With the advanced touchscreen LCD, users can use the Frame Marker masking function to check the composition during recording in various aspect ratios such as 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 5:4 and 9:16. The distinctive red REC frame - an indicator of recording in progress on the screen and in the electronic viewfinder - clearly indicates whether the unit is recording.
Streaming
High quality live streaming indoors and outdoors with minimal equipment! Just the LUMIX GH5M2 and a smartphone with the LUMIX Sync app and you can stream FHD/60fps video at 16 Mbps. For live streaming via cable, special LUMIX Webcam Software is available as a free download.
Operational Reliability
Every joint or button on the LUMIX GH5M2 is sealed for use in harsh outdoor conditions. The lifetime of the shutter mechanism is approximately 200,000 cycles. To further support outdoor use, the GH5M2 boasts a new 2200 mAh high-capacity battery that meets USB PD (Power Delivery) requirements and can be recharged via and USB bus. The LUMIX GH5M2 features two SD memory card slots compatible with UHS-II high-speed, high-capacity cards with V90 classification for transfer, backup and recording allocation.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
The LUMIX GH5M2 integrates Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. By connecting the camera to a smartphone/tablet using the Panasonic LUMIX Sync app for iOS/Android, users can shoot, view and share photos and videos remotely. Bluetooth 4.2 (BLE, Bluetooth Low Energy) compatibility keeps the camera connected to the smartphone with minimal power consumption. The LUMIX GH5M2's settings and presets can also be copied and used in other devices of the same model, either via the LUMIX Sync wireless app or via SD card. Wi-Fi provides a secure and stable connection to either devices using the 2.4 GHz band or devices using the 5 GHz band (if available).
LUMIX Tether
Using the LUMIX Tether PC application, users can control the camera on a PC via the USB interface. The software allows the user and other viewers to view images on the computer screen while shooting, which is invaluable for commercial portrait or product photography, etc. The software supports 6K and 4K photos, can be used to start and stop video recording, and the user can also select a destination folder to save the images.
Future firmware updates
The LUMIX GH5M2 will continue to evolve, with firmware updates planned by the end of 2021 to include Live View Composite, USB Tethering (connecting to a smartphone via 4G/5G), and RTP/RTSP IP streaming capability when connected via cable. Upcoming firmware for the LUMIX G / LEICA DG lenses (H-E08018, H-X1025, H-ES12060, H-ES50200, H-RS100400, H-XA025, H-ES200, H-HSA12035, H-FS12060, H-HSA35100, H-FSA45200 and H-FSA100300) will make them easier to use with the Lumix GH5M2 and allow users to select non-linear or linear focus ring settings. In the non-linear setting, the focus changes depending on the rotation speed of the ring. In the linear setting, the focus shifts at fixed intervals depending on how much the ring is rotated, mimicking a manual lens. The sensitivity in the linear setting can be adjusted from 90 to 360 degrees in 30-degree intervals.
