New product
The Laowa Probe 24 mm f/14 is a macro lens unlike any other. The original design allows you to look at the world up close, or even very close. Marvel at unusual perspectives and even look under the surface of water. The Cine version of the lens is equipped with toothed rings for easy use with professional focusing systems.
The unusual appearance of the lens is not a whim of the designers. It was dictated by the tasks it was designed to perform. The lens measures 41 cm in length and its front optical element is just 2 cm in diameter. This makes it possible to get unobtrusively close to the subjects being photographed and to reach places previously unattainable.
The large reproduction scale (2:1) and short minimum focusing distance (20 mm from the front lens) will allow you to discover the world of macro photography from a previously unknown angle. You will be able to photograph insects in their natural habitat, sneak through a thicket of leaves or look inside a bottle. The infinity focus function makes it easy to create the perfect composition.
The long, all-metal lens barrel conceals extremely complex optics, consisting of up to 27 lenses, arranged in 19 groups. The 24mm focal length provides a field of view of 85°. This also allows you to depict your subject in terms of the scenery in which it is located, as well as retaining significantly more detail than with classic macro lenses.
Precision workmanship and top-quality materials guarantee perfect imaging of the lens. The manual focus and aperture rings operate smoothly, providing the necessary resistance for precise operation.
This advanced optical design and the size of the front element significantly reduce the amount of light reaching the sensor. The minimum aperture is only f/14, making it necessary for the photographed subject to be well lit. However, the lens manufacturer Venus Optics has not left its baby in the dark without a secret weapon. Nine LEDs, forming a miniature ring light around the front lens, will allow you to effectively illuminate the subject of your photo even in complete darkness. The lamp can be powered from an external power source (e.g. power bank) using the included USB cable.
What else can you do with a wide-angle macro lens of unusual shape, additionally equipped with a ring LED lamp? Well, you can put it under water! This is because the front element (20 cm from the front lens) of the Laowa Probe 24 mm f/14 has been sealed against moisture, dust and weather conditions. You can immerse it in an aquarium, a lake or a fizzy drink with bubbles without any worries. This opens up enormous possibilities in aquarium, product and culinary photography or video applications.
Caution: flooding of the USB port may damage the lens.
The Laowa Probe 24mm f/14 is available with Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, Arri PL and Pentax K mounts. In combination with a wide range of bayonet adapters, you will mount the lens on virtually any camera from the range of leading manufacturers.
The Cine version of the lens is sure to be of interest to filmmakers. It is equipped with a gear ring for easy use with follow focus systems. A standard version (without gears) is also available for sale, designed with photographers in mind.
